Experience: During highschool, I worked for 3 years as a Veterinarian's Assistant — then began my more than 50 year career in the Behavioural Sciences including ongoing education & licensed membership with The College of Registered Psychiatric Nurses of BC. During my psychiatric nursing career I studied with and worked for 6 consecutive years with a Master Dog Trainer.
20 years at 2 major hospital psychiatric units with clinical experience in paediatrics, adult and geriatric settings including teaching the theory and practical application of behaviour modification techniques to nursing students, social work students and medical students.
10 years at BC's largest Adolescent Treatment Centre utilizing behaviour modification techniques (Emphasis on Positive Reinforcement Methods) with both psychiatric and conduct disordered youth where I also taught two subjects at the on-site Secondary School.
During my psychiatric nursing career I studied with and worked for 6 consecutive years with a Master Dog Trainer at the largest dog kennel in the North West. I also graduated from six Professional Dog Trainer courses including the Police Sciences (Tracking & Protection) and Instructor's First Class Level.
I combined my love of working with Kids and Dogs by simply taking my dogs to work with me at the hospital so my well trained, affectionate family pets served as Therapy Dogs. Play, bonding and companionship always proved to be the most important criteria for effective learning and changing unwanted, inappropriate or harmful behaviours of either the kids or the dogs!
Taught people how to become professional dog trainers @ Prewitt Canine Training Academy (PPSEC/PCTIA) Registered Trade School 2003-2008) Over the past thirty years I have personally rescued eleven dogs. They were all given up for serious behavioural problems, some of them scheduled to be euthanized as hopeless cases. I rescued them at various times and at various ages housing as few as two and as many as four. They became my family pets and I trained them while they worked for me as demonstration dogs at my dog training school. They successfully achieved advanced levels of obedience, agility, tracking, personal protection & therapy dogs. Our family will continue to rescue dogs. Please consider rescuing a dog who needs a family home when choosing your next pet. Get professional help to guide you in any problems you may encounter.
